Superstock Champ of Champs, Sprintcar Stampede

    Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 08:57 AM [General]

Another awesome days racing here in Gissy for the Superstock Champ of Champs, and the Sprintcar Stampede.

    Superstocks:
Loads of roll overs, and cars exiting the track, which made qualifying interesting to say the least!
    Top ten qualifiers were:
    Hazel 5g, Bruce Clarke 20m, Tyron 116m, Rocky 9m, Bossman 961b, Slick7g, Cody 6g, Pumba 971b, Eathan 51g, and Jase 81g.

The first final was hard and fast race, with Pumba, Jase and Eathan all having dnf's. Hazel took the win, followed home by Bruce, then Tyron for 3rd.

Final number 2 was a battle of survival, with Slick making sure that Bruce and Rocky had dnf's, also had a big go at Tyron, barrel rolling him, but landing back on his wheels to carry on. In the meantime Hazel picked up win number 2, Tyron in 2nd, and Pumba picking up valuable points in 3rd place.

So the final heat was to be very interesting. The Mount were keen to dish some payback out, and they did. A very fast final, but the with Bruce, Tyron and Rocky all getting dnf'd, it left the gate wide open for Pumba to take a well deserved win, Slick home in 2nd, and Hazel in at 3rd.

So the winner of the 2008 Pacific Harbour Motor Inn was Hazel 5g with 28 points, 2nd place to Slick 7g with 22 points, and 3rd place to Pumba with 18 points.

    Sprintcars:
10 sprintcars were set to do battle over the 5 heats.
Heat 1saw Hazel 5g take the win, in front of Brian 09g for 2nd, and Jono 28g in 3rd.
Heat 2 saw Mike 78g race home to take the win, with Hazel giving chase collecting 2nd place, and Glenn slotting into 3rd.
Heat 3 had Glenn showing his form, picking up the win, in front of Hazel for 2nd, and Brian for 3rd.
Heat 4 had Hazel take it out, ahead of Mike 78g in 2nd, and Jono 28g in 3rd.
So going into the 30 lap double points final, Hazel had the highest total of points, gaining him pole, grid two was occupied by Glenn, grid 3 Mike, grid 4 Brain, grid 5 Jono, grid 6 Cody, grid 7 Tony 14m, grid 8 Mathew, and Slick rounding out the field in 9th.
Once the dust had settled from the final, Hazel had won the race, in front of Brian for 2nd, and glenn making it home in 3rd.
This result handed Hazel the 1st place trophy for the 2008 Pacific Harbour Motor Inn Sprintcar Stampede, 2nd place went to Glenn, and 3rd place to Brian.

A BIG BIG thank you to all the competitors who raced today, especially the out of towners who made the trip down (or up). We all know how much of a crappy drive you have to get here, but we all hope that you left today with a smile on your face!
Hopefully all the stockcar boys dont have too many repairs to do before your next race meeting. :P
    Cheers guys!!

    The 2008 XRC World 540's

    Sunday, August 3, 2008, 10:28 PM [General]

The weekend of the 12/13th of July, I headed to Taupo, where the Madmaori was hosting the 2008 World 540's.

It was a National Championship meeting, with a little twist.  We all had to run stock standard Tamiya 540 j motors.  It was going to be a great leveller, and it proved to be a great race day, but more on that later.

The Saturday evening, we held "World War III".  A best of three teams race. The Karlos Tanks vs the Madmaoris Spacey Spastics.  A ver brutal affair, extremely fast racing, the first race was won by the Tanks. Second race got underway, I found myself climbing through the back of the Madmaoris car, destroying his 2 race old body (hehe). towards the end of the race, I had the most gentle exit of the track ever, just enough of a ride on Mackies bonnet, and out I wet, even stayed on my wheels!  Anyway, the Tank team went on to win race two, enough to win the World War II title for 2008!

Sunday morning we arrived back at the track, paid the entry fee, and got our silver can motor.  A few minutes of bedding in, then straight into my tank.  Being a 4.5kg tank, and having a silver can motor, in my mind I thought theres no way I can qualify, so race 1 I set about smashing anything, especially the Wellington boys.  Finished 4th to my surprise.  Race 2 I held up half the grid on the start line for a good half a lap, then went about smashing cars again, bit more sucess this time, rolling Hopper from Wellington (the winner of race one) and  I ended up finishing3rd.  Final race for qualifying, I wassitting in third place on the points table, 1 point off the 2nd place wellington car.  My good mate Brett from the Mount club was instrumental for me, he dealt to the wellington cars, and I went through to win the race.  I had qualified!!

For the finals, I thought i'd better change my car, as the pace was ok, but seemed like I could get some more.  A couple of gearing changes and I was ready.  Finals race 1, I shot away to the lead, kept my nose clean and won it, with Tyron 116m chasing me home in 2nd.  Finals race 2, Tyron and I changed around, Tyron winning it, I got 2nd. so going into the Final, Tyron and I were tied, closest car to us was 7 points behind.  All we had to do was to keep our noses clean and finish well, and we were going to get somewhere.  Tyron and I ran away from the pack, I lead the  race until lap 12, when Tyron slipped underneath me for the lead. Next lap, tyron got dealt to, smashing him out of the track, leaving me to take the win, and win the World 540's.

So it goes to show you, one of the heaviest cars can still foot it with the featherweights!  Big ups to my boys from the mount club for helping me claim the World 540 Title!!

Was it actually faulty? Random... Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what I can do about the lack of range in my gear. Receivers seem to work fine though, but does cut out way shorter than I expect it to. I mean, if crystals have more range, theres some problem :S Can't wait for that offroad track to be underway.

2 receivers work fine on mine. You probably need to enter 2 different models for 2 different cars. The range on mine is pretty crap... barely goes over 100m. Maybe it needs to be returned...

Yeah, it was good :) hit the side quite a bit and shell has taken some damage :P Lucky I kept the RZ motor in there, would have been totally outclassed if I had standard stock. I think I placed near the end, if not last :P Rather slippery for my slicks, so maybe I'll try some radials next time. Would love to get into some offroad. Bit tight on race area. Was good to meet other enthusiasts :) I might turn up again, and see what one of my friends is up to. Might drag him along. Need to get hold of a faster charger... :P
